Hopewell Vikings Little League (Team Lavia) faced a tough test last evening in taking down Ambridge under the lights, in a back-and-forth road battle, by a final score of 17-10.

The Vikings bats got them on the board early, plating two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning.

Ambridge was resilient throughout the game and evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom half of the first, setting a trend for the rest of the night.

Hopewell would climb back on top in the second, with a six-run outburst, but the Bridgers’ bats battled again to cut the lead to 8-7. Next, Ambridge flipped the script by scoring a pair of runs and jumping ahead 9-8 after three innings.

However, these Vikings would not be deterred and answered the bell in the 4th inning. Five Viking baserunners crossed the plate, and Hopewell wrested away the lead for good. While Ambridge managed to grab another run in the home half of the fourth, the Vikings put the game out oof reach in the top of the fifth with four more runs.

Hopewell closed things down by holding the Bridgers scoreless in the final frame, needing only 8 pitches to end the inning and bring home the hard-fought 17-10 victory over an Ambridge squad that featured some very talented players.

Despite being the first game of the Fall Ball season for this Hopewell bunch, the Vikings bats came out hot; every batter reached base on the evening.
