Matthews Falls in High-Scoring Battle With New Brighton

Hopewell, PA – September 17, 2025

Team Matthews put up an offensive showcase Wednesday night at home, but it wasn’t enough to hold off New Brighton 3, falling 13–10 in a slugfest that featured a combined 51 hits and 23 runs.

From the opening pitch, both lineups made it clear they showed up to play. New Brighton jumped out quickly with a four-run first and a five-run second, but Matthews answered with runs in each of the first three innings to stay in striking distance. The Hopewell bats erupted again in the sixth, plating five runs in a late rally before ultimately coming up just short.

Matthews’ Bats Stay Hot

Despite the loss, Matthews outhit New Brighton 26–25, spreading production throughout the lineup.

  • Grayson Oblinger (#10, LF) sparked the offense, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Ben Matthews (#12, C) matched him with a 4-for-4 performance of his own, scoring twice and keeping the lineup moving.
  • Warren Carll (#5, RF) provided power in the middle of the order, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs.
  • Eli Rogers (#99, P) chipped in with three hits and drove home two runs.
  • Tony Matthews (#20, 1B) delivered a two-run triple.
  • Enzo Markowitz (#77, CF) was another bright spot, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Altogether, seven different Matthews hitters recorded multi-hit games, highlighting the team’s depth at the plate.

Though New Brighton’s bats stayed relentless, Matthews showed grit on the mound and fought through every inning to give their offense a chance.

Looking Ahead

While the result didn’t swing in Hopewell’s favor, the Matthews squad displayed the offensive firepower that will serve them well as the season unfolds. Out-hitting their opponent and mounting a furious late rally proves this lineup can go toe-to-toe with anyone.

Team Matthews Fall 2025 will look to build on the momentum from their bats as they prepare for their next matchup. Also stay tuned for a special announcement at the end of the season!
