Year 12 β€’ The Forbidden Tournament

What started in a neighborhood backyard in New Brighton in the late 80s grew into something unforgettable. From 1996 to 2006, the Funk-Mob Classy Classic was a legendary underground 2-on-2 tournament β€” filled with nicknames, ankle weights, blacktop battles, and backboard dunks under the lights of the now-iconic ALXN Arena.

After 11 unforgettable years, the venue was outgrown. But the spirit never left. In 2017, in partnership with the New Brighton Area Rec Commission, they rebuilt what once had: two full-court replicas of the original backyard arena at New Brighton Area Middle School β€” now known as the Concrete Jungle OG.

In 2020, they were set to relaunch… but the pandemic delayed the dream. Now, powered by CJ2K Premier Streetball League, they’re back for Year 12 of the Classy Classic:

πŸ”₯ THE FORBIDDEN TOURNAMENT πŸ”₯

➑️ 8 High School Teams

➑️ 8 Middle School Teams (tentative)

➑️ Dunks. Nicknames. The DINGO BOOT.

➑️ The return of THE LOOGMAN.

➑️ A 4-point shot.

➑️ WMOB (Women’s Bracket) debuts.

No telling if legends like Guy Junker will return, but one thing’s for sure β€” this summer, the Classy Classic guarantees surprises. We always have.

You might ask yourself, where does this fit in with Hopewell Sports? Well, throughout the entire county there will be only 8 High School teams and 8 Junior High teams. Participation is by invitation only. With that being said, four of our very own Hopewell Junior High Basketball players will be participating in this tournament. Christian Fischer, Ryder Kostrick, Kaleb Gonzalez and Enzo Leopardi. We wish these four young men the best of luck in this competitive tournament.

πŸ’₯ Welcome back to the CONCRETE JUNGLE, OG!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
