Black and Gold Meet Blue and Gold: Steelers to Visit Hopewell High

On Thursday, October 23rd, and Friday, October 24th, the Steelers will be visiting Hopewell High School. On Thursday, A pep assembly was held, and the NFL recording team for the Steelers came out to witness our school’s interactions with each other.

A few weeks back, Hopewell and two other schools had the opportunity to be voted for a program that the Steelers were bringing back, where one Steeler would be sent out to a High School football game to interact with students in their respective student section and show up to a pep assembly to cover that. The last day, when we thought we were behind, we managed to dig ourselves out of the deficit and come out on top, managing to earn a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Today’s pep assembly included a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos, human style, A game of stacking 7 extra-large boxes on top of each other without them toppling over, and to end it all off, a game of tug of war by the Hopewell Football linemen and girls cheerleading, which was quite entertaining to watch! As per normal, we had our amazing band playing at this event, pumping up the students and sending encouragement through things other than words. The atmosphere was very energetic and upbeat, with students cheering for other students. In the Hungry Hungry Hippos game, two students were selected from each grade to lie down on a scooter and hold a crate to try to get as many marbles as they could into the crate and then return those marbles to the hoolahoop to obtain the points. The game of stacking boxes was meant to see who could utilize some science skills to see how much force was needed to make the last box stay on top of the rather fragile 6-box tower that was already assembled by each player. Last but not least, the tug of war game, which had a surprising twist to it, Head football coach Matt Mottes, and head cheerleading coach, Kelly Wiabel, both participated in with their respective sports.

This event was not only action-packed and full of enjoyment, but it was also a momentous occasion to see all of the cameras going around to show people who the Vikings are.

Come out tomorrow to support your Vikings Football team, and don’t forget to bring your Yinzer towel and Stillers jersey for tomorrow’s game against North Catholic. This one’s a big one, don’t miss it.
