Holiday Havoc Brings Competitive Fun and Community Spirit to Local Youth Volleyball

The gym was filled with energy, teamwork, and holiday spirit as Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association hosted its annual Holiday Havoc Triples Tournament on Sunday, December 28, bringing together young athletes from across the region for a full day of competition and camaraderie.

The tournament featured 50 total teams competing across multiple age divisions, ranging from 5th grade through college-level players, showcasing just how deep and vibrant the local volleyball community continues to be. With a unique triples format, the event emphasized skill development, communication, and teamwork—giving athletes the chance to grow their game in a fun, fast-paced environment.

A Friendly, High-Energy Atmosphere

Holiday Havoc was designed as a friendly tournament, and that spirit was evident throughout the day. Players competed hard while supporting one another, making the event an ideal blend of competition and sportsmanship. Doors opened early as different waves of age groups took the courts, ensuring every athlete had a chance to shine.

The event also served as a valuable opportunity for younger players to see older athletes in action, reinforcing positive role models and showing what dedication to the sport can lead to over time.

Hopewell Representation on the Court

Among the teams competing were Hopewell High School ninth graders Abigail Babinsack, Liliana Katcher, and Bella Cipolla, who teamed up to represent their school and community. Competing together against strong regional competition, the trio exemplified confidence, teamwork, and the benefits of staying active in youth sports.

Their participation reflects the continued growth of volleyball in the Hopewell area and the importance of opportunities like Holiday Havoc in helping young athletes build experience outside the traditional school season.

A Community-Focused Event

A group photo taken during the tournament captured all participating players from every team, highlighting the true scale and inclusivity of the event. Dozens of athletes stood together—different schools, different ages, different skill levels—united by their shared love of the game.

Events like Holiday Havoc go beyond wins and losses. They provide:

  • Positive outlets for youth
  • Opportunities for skill development
  • Confidence building through competition
  • Strong community connections

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
