Fall Ball Double Feature: Team Daley and Team Matthews Battle Hard in Season Openers!
Mitchell Hodnicki’s Five-RBI Day Highlights Daley Fall Ball’s Effort Against Rochester
Daley Fall Ball 2025 showed plenty of firepower at the plate on Wednesday evening at 130 Winford Ln., but despite a strong offensive showing, fell to a talented Rochester team by a 16-9 score.
The story of the night was Mitchell Hodnicki who turned in a monster performance, driving in five runs on three hits—including a towering home run in the fifth inning. His bat was the spark plug for Daley, helping the team put together multiple big innings against Rochester’s pitching.
Daley wasted no time answering back after Rochester opened the scoring in the top of the first. Mitchell crushed a triple to bring a run home, and Cameron Baker followed with an RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
The momentum carried into the second inning, when Daley’s offense exploded for five runs on six hits. Mitchell delivered again with a two-run single, while contributions up and down the order gave Daley a 7-2 lead and had the home crowd buzzing.
Rochester battled back to tie things in the third and later edged ahead in the fifth, but Daley wasn’t done yet. Mitchell’s home run in the bottom of the fifth brought in two runs and pulled the team within striking distance.
While Rochester’s bats ultimately proved too much down the stretch, Daley continued to compete hard and turned in a strong effort at the plate. The team racked up 17 hits on the night, highlighted by multi-hit games from Mitchell Hodnicki, Brady Daley, Cameron Baker, Wesley Zubach, Gunnar Mack, and Jake Brunton. Brady and Cameron each joined Mitchell with three hits apiece, showcasing the depth in Daley’s lineup.
Defensively, Daley turned in a clean game in the field, playing error-free baseball. Mitchell also shined with the glove, handling a team-high nine chances with sure hands.
Though the final score didn’t fall their way, Daley showed growth, and plenty of offensive production that will carry over into their next matchup. The team now turns its attention to an exciting showdown against West Mayfield, where they’ll look to build on Wednesday’s positive momentum.

Coach Matthews’ Squad Outlasts Freedom in 10-8 Thriller
In another highlight of the day, Coach Matthews’ Fall Ball team earned an impressive 10-8 home victory over Freedom in a back-and-forth battle full of offense and determination.
The team came out swinging in the bottom of the first, stringing together five hits to jump ahead. The biggest blow came from Warren Carll, who ripped a triple to clear the bases and drive in three.
Freedom battled back, keeping the game tight through the middle innings, but every player found a way to contribute. By the end of the night, every kid on the roster had reached base at least once by either a hit or an error.
Heading into the fifth, they held a slim 7-6 lead before Freedom tied things up with a four-hit rally. But the bottom half of the inning was all Team Matthews. Tony Matthews sparked the frame with a single up the middle, Eli Rogers reached on an error, and Warren Carll came through again with another clutch triple, this time driving in two runs. Enzo followed with an infield hit that added another insurance run.
The top of the sixth provided drama, as Enzo Markowitz made a standout defensive play—snaring a line drive at third and firing across the diamond to Tony Matthews at first. Moments later, Enzo showed toughness when he took a sharp line drive off the shin, yet stayed in the game to help close things out. Freedom scratched across two runs, but Daley’s defense held firm, securing the 10-8 win.
Coach Matthews praised the team’s resilience and all-around effort, noting how every player made a difference in the hard-fought victory.
