Hopewell 8th Graders Earn 39-31 TEAM Win Over Avonworth
Basketball teams that can beat you on all three levels are dangerous and hard to beat.
The Hopewell Vikings 8th grade team has that quality and is a big reason they’ve done a lot of winning this season.
On Monday, the Lady Vikings got production from outside, midrange and in the paint which led them to a 39-31 victory over Avonworth.
Scrappy point guard Ava Ray led Hopewell with 13 points and 6 assists, followed by Calasia Cannon and Lily Enders, who both scored 12 points. Talented center Ellie McCoy chipped in 2 points.
Ray’s quickness and cross over dribbling enabled her to be able to get the hoop at will and was something Avonworth couldn’t contain. When they did, Hopewell’s passing was exceptional and Cannon and Enders showed why they’re big time scorers.
Hopewell’s size was a huge factor as they dominated down low. Enders and Lillian Otto both pulled down 8 rebounds apiece. Enders was also a factor with 4 blocked shots.
Hopewell trailed 10-7 early but after outscoring Avonworth, 11-6 in the second quarter, the Vikings took a 22-16 lead into halftime.
This exciting and talented team returns to action on Thursday as they host Central Valley at 4:30 PM.
