MOON TOWNSHIP– The 2024 season for the Hopewell Girls Junior High Basketball teams ended today on a positive note.
The Lady Vikings 7th and 8th grade teams traveled to take on the Moon Tigers and came away with two wins!!
HOPEWELL 7TH GRADE RECAP:
This 2024 Vikings team was very successful this season because it was so balanced. On any given night, it had a handful of players that could lead them in scoring. When you have that capability, you’re a good team which this Hopewell 7th grade team was.
This afternoon against Moon, it was Amiyah Shell leading the way with a game-high 16 points!
With the game tied at 4, Hopewell went on an 8-1 and never trailed the rest of the way. At the half, the Lady Vikings led by the score of 23-11.
Taking a look at the Vikings box score, Shell scored 16, Elianna McCoy scored 6 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. Arionna Shell had 8 points, Sam Holsinger chipped in with 4 points, and Dallas Boyd had 2 points.
Hopewell finished the season with a record of 9-4.
FINAL SCORE: HOPEWELL 36 MOON 23
HOPEWELL 8TH GRADE RECAP:
Today was the final junior high game for these 8th graders as they move on to play for the high school program next season. That’s great news for Coach Homziak because there’s a number of talented players on this roster that will be able to contribute.
One of those players is Lily Enders who will be a nice post player for years to come. Today, Enders scored 15 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 5 shots in an impressive Hopewell win.
Hopewell led 22-11 at halftime and then went on a 12-0 run to open the second half. A big key to Hopewell’s win was their defense as they were able to block 7 shots and come up with 19 steals.
Another player that will be fun to watch is guard/wing Calasia Cannon, who put in 14 points. Hopewell’s point guard of the future could very well by Ava Ray as she did a great job of running the Hopewell offense in 2024. Today, Ray scored 8 points, including two 3-pointers, while also dishing out 5 assists.
Joining Enders in Hopewell’s front court in the future will be Lillian Otto, who was a presence both offensively and defensively all season. This afternoon, Otto scored 5 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and grabbed 6 steals. Abby Babinsack gave Hopewell a player that was able to produce down low and also from mid-range. In her final game, Babinsack scored 6 points and collected 3 rebounds.
FINAL SCORE: HOPEWELL 48 MOON 30
Hopewell finished the season with a record of 7-6.
Congratulations to the Hopewell 7th and 8th grade teams on a tremendous season. One thing we definitely learned is that the future is certainly bright for the future of Hopewell Girls Basketball!
