Two Nice Wins Today by the Hopewell Girls Junior High Basketball Teams
The Hopewell Girls Junior High Basketball teams both ended two game losing streaks this afternoon with impressive wins over the Moon Tigers.
With the wins, both teams improve their records to 3-2 on the 2024 season.
Here’s a recap of both starting with the 7th grade game.
7th Grade Game:
After trailing early, the Lady Vikings went on a 12-0 run to take control of the game and they never looked back with the final score being 38-21.
Hopewell outscored Moon, 11-4 in the 2nd quarter, which got them out to a 17-8 halftime lead.
Leading Hopewell in scoring was Amiyah Shell with 13 points, including 5 from the free-throw line. Elianna McCoy once again had another strong game with 12 points and was a monster on the boards with 8.
Other Hopewell scorers this afternoon were Arionna Shell with 4 points and 5 steals, Sam Holsinger with 2 points, Afton Budris with 2 points, Dallas Boyd with 2 points, Luz Jimenez with 2 points and Brooke Otto with 1 point.
A couple big factors in today’s win were Hopewell’s ability to pass the ball as they collected 9 assists on 16 made field goals. Also, defensively the Lady Vikings came with the 12 steals.
Nice win ladies!!
Next up will be a challenging contest on Wednesday at Avonworth.
8th Grade Game:
Guard Ava Ray had another strong game for the 8th grader program leading them to a 38-25 victory.
The game was close early, but the Lady Vikings had a strong 2nd quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 14-6. That surge allowed Hopewell to take a 19-10 lead into halftime.
Aside from Ray, Hopewell spread the scoring around with Lily Enders contributing 8 points and 4 blocked shots, Abby Babinsack scored 6 points, Lillian Otto with 4 points and Calasia Cannon with 3 points and 6 rebounds. Other Lady Vikings scorers with Amiyah Shell with 3 points, Arionna Shell with 2 points and Leah Buettner with 2 points.
Like the 7th grade team, this 8th grade team also passed the ball well, coming up with 10 assists on 15 of their made baskets.
This 8th grade team also will be challenged on Wednesday by Avonworth.
There’s a lot of talent on these two teams so coupled with the current roster on the high school team, the future of Hopewell Girls basketball looks bright.
