8-Year Olds Advance in Ambridge Tournament with 10-3 Win Over Beaver Falls
A great start to the day for the Hopewell 8-year-olds in the 2024 Ambridge All-Star Tournament.
The Vikings started today taking on the Beaver Falls Tigers and pulled away late for a 10-3 victory. With the win, Hopewell will now take on Freedom in the semifinals.
The game was tied at 3 all after 4 innings when the Hopewell offense exploded for 7 runs in the last two innings to secure the win.
Hopewell trailed 2-1 in the 4th inning when the bats caught fire.
With 1 on, Jonah Honess doubled in Jordan Peck to tie the game at 2-all. Next up, Tristyn Trkulija hit a line drive single to center, scoring Honess and Hopewell regained the lead 3-2.
Moving ahead to the 5th inning with the game tied at 3, Michael Kurta reached base on an error. Then came the big moment of the game. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, Brody Benson cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to right field, giving Hopewell a 6-3 lead.
Hopewell then played a clean defensive bottom of the 5th and added to their lead in the 6th inning.
Honess started the inning with a double and then with 1 on and 1 out, Aaron Ackerman doubled to center, scoring Honess and Bennett Beron. The lead grew to 9-3 following an RBI single by Maddox Kennedy, which scored Ackerman. The final run of the inning came in following an RBI single by Tommy Carver.
For the game, Hopewell outhit Beaver Falls, 13-3.
Honess, Benson and Carter each collected 2 hits, while Hopewell run producers were Benson with 3 RBI, Trkulija and Ackerman both had 2 RBI and Carver, Honess and Kennedy with 1.
