8-Year Old All-Stars Pull Out Exciting 14-12 Win Over Ambridge
It was an exciting start to the Ambridge 2024 All-Star tournament as the Hopewell 8-year olds got things started with a 14-12 win over host Ambridge.
Things started off dicey as Ambridge jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning but the Vikings responded.
The key to the game was Hopewell being able to score in every inning while their defense was able to keep the Bridgers scoreless in 3 of the 6 innings.
Offensively, Hopewell banged out 17 hits and were led by the top two hitters in their lineup. Brody Benson and Jordan Peck both collected 3 hits apiece.
Aaron Ackerman, Maddox Kennedy, Coleson Orie and Michael Kurta each contributed 2 hits apiece. Jonah Honess, Tristyn Trkulja and Deacon Ankrom each collected a hit as well.
In terms of run producers, Benson led the way with 3 RBI while Orie and Trkulija had 2 and Ackerman , Peck and Kennedy had one.
In their four run first inning, Ackerman produced an RBI triple and Orie came up with a big RBI double.
The second inning was big for Hopewell as they were able to score 4 runs with 2 outs, including a 2-run single by Trkulija to make the score 9-8 Ambridge.
The game was tied at 12 all going to the bottom of the 5th inning when Benson singled in Kurta and Ankrom to give Hopewell a 14-12 lead.
Hopewell needed to get 3 outs in the 6th inning to secure the win and they got it.
Benson was part of all three outs as he got two outs on separate fielder choices at second base. The final out came on a ground ball that he threw to first.
Final: Hopewell 14 Ambridge 12.
