11-Year Olds Pull Off Impressive 13-9 Comeback Win Over Shaler
During their 9-game win streak, the Hopewell 11-year old all-Stars haven’t trailed much let alone play in a tight game .
That changed this evening against Shaler.
Hopewell found themselves trailing 9-3 after 3 innings and their win streak appeared to be in jeopardy.
However, this team showed guts, didn’t hand their heads and kept competing.
The result was an impressive 13-9 comeback win, which included a 4-run sixth inning to win it!
Hopewell scored 3 runs in the top of the first, courtesy RBI singles from Elliott Mancos and two steal of homes from Henry Dunn and Mancos.
Shaler would then score the next 9 runs of the game to lead 9-3 and that’s when the comeback started.
In the top of the 4th, Colby Cunningham singled in Rhett Rankin and two runners scored on a fielders choice by Wes Gigliotti. Hopewell now trailed 9-6.
Hopewell then tied the game at 9 with an RBI single from Connor Eiler and a 2-run RBI groundout from Cunningham.
The game was tied going to the final frame but didn’t stay tied for long.
Eli Seech reached on an error and promptly stole second base. 1 out later, Seech scored on a RBI single by Gigliotti. Wade Enders then drew a walk and after a double steal, Gigliotti and Enders scored on a 2-run single by Elliott Mancos, who’s been raking the ball lately.
The 13th run then scored on a 2-out RBI single by Rilynn Davis. The Vikings now held a 4-run lead going to the final inning.
Coach Dave Gigliotti brought in Mancos to close and he did just that.
After giving up a leadoff single, Mancos struck out the next two batters.
Drama then occurred as the next two batters walked to load the bases. No problem as Mancos got the final out courtesy of a line out to Gigliotti at second.
Final Score: Hopewell 13 Shaler 9.
