Hopewell HS Boys Basketball Opens 2023-24 Season with Win Over Freedom

An incredible start to the Hopewell Boys Basketball 2023-2024 season. These boys certainly did not disappoint with their performance last night in the South Side Tournament as they took on Freedom. Final score: Hopewell 64 Freedom 35!! Here’s a recap of the game.

1ST QUARTER:

-Mason Showrank drives to the basket, drawing the foul and made 2 free throws from the line.   Hopewell 2-0 

-Beautiful read by Zach Kovell intercepting the pass from Freedom which leads to a fast break. Hopewell 8-0

-An assist by Thomas Pipkins to Mason Showrank to knock down the 3. Hopewell 13-4

-Once again, another insane read of the game by Mason Showrank resulting in a fast break for 2.  Hopewell 15-4 

-With 5 seconds left in quarter 1 Micheal Brown hits a 3 to end the quarter. Hopewell 18-7


2ND QUARTER: 

-Strong drive to the hoop for 2 by Kovell.  Hopewell 24-7 

-Once again, Showrank on fire for another 3.  Hopewell 28-7

-Zach Gigliotti for the layup. Hopewell 32-16

-Kovell then drives to the basket with a challenge against 2 Freedom defenders but manages to put it up and in.  Hopewell 36-17

-A strong rebound by Nick Adams drawing the foul which will lead to 2 beautiful free throws at the line. Hopewell 38-17

HALFTIME: Hopewell 39-17. 


3RD QUARTER: 

-Great start to the second half by Showrank driving to the hoop for 2.  Hopewell 41-19

 -Thomas Pipkins then draws the foul for 2 at the line. Hopewell 43-19

-A lights out 3 by Gigliotti.  Hopewell 48-19

-Aggressive take to the basket by Pipkins for 2. Hopewell 50-24

-Aaron Dickhart with a great take to the basket drawing the foul. Hopewell 53-24

-A steal by Gigliotti on defense leads to a fast break and dishes it to Dickhart for the layup. Hopewell 56-26

-Then an incredible offensive rebound by Martinez putting it back up for 2 and drawing the foul. Hopewell 59-26


4TH QUARTER:

-Pipkins goes to the line for 2 after an aggressive foul. Hopewell 63-26

-A one on one take to the basket by sophomore Jake Kovell draws the foul and finishes the game with a made free throw 


FINAL: Hopewell 64-35

*With a great performance by all the boys they were able to pull out with the win against Freedom to set the tone for their upcoming season. Come out to South Side tonight to watch these boys play against the South Side Rams at 5:00 pm hoping to pull off a record of 2-0 to go into next week.
