Hopewell HS Girls Soccer Loses to Ambridge, 3-2, in Double-OT Thriller

AMBRIDGE– In what was described to me as one of the most intense soccer matches that they’ve seen the Hopewell HS Girls Soccer team play in years, the Lady Vikings lost to Ambridge, 3-2, in Double Overtime.

Everyone on Hopewell was touching the ball, playing well and generating plenty of scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately for Hopewell, they couldn’t bury the prime opportunities that they had.

*Hopewell got on the scoreboard first as Angela Campbell scored to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.

*Then at 33:35, Campbell got a shot on the Ambridge net and Caylee Sundy was there to put away the rebound. Hopewell led 2-0.

*With 4:27 left in the first half, Ambridge cut the score to 2-1 as Megan Conover scored in the high corner for the Bridgers.

*With a minute left in the half, Hopewell junior Holly Biesenkamp charged the net with a good scoring opportunity but was denied by the Ambridge goalkeeper.

HALFTIME: HOPEWELL 2 AMBRIDGE 1

*At 32:52 left in the match, Conover scored her second goal of the night for Ambridge and the match was tied at 2.

*Shout out to Hopewell’s Allison Ramaley who was strong in net as she made over 10 saves and preserved the tie. After 40 minutes of regulation play, the match went to a 10-minute overtime.

END OF REGULATION: HOPEWELL 2 AMBRIDGE 2

*As she did in regulation, Ramaley was strong for Hopewell, making a couple of key saves.

*With 10 seconds left in OT, Biesenkamp made a strong move and generated a good scoring opportunity buy once again, the Ambridge netkeeper was up to the task and made the save.

END OF 1ST OVERTIME: HOPEWELL 2 AMBRIDGE 2

*10 more minutes were put on the clock and after 90 minutes of action, both teams went back out for 10 more minutes of sudden death overtime.

*With 5:30 left, Campbell broke towards the net with a chance, but her shot was denied. The score stay tied at 2.

*With 1 minute left in double-overtime, Conover popped a shot in for a hat trick and a Bridger win.

FINAL SCORE: AMBRIDGE 3 HOPEWELL 2 2 OT
