Hopewell 5th Grade Girls End Great Season with Loss in Championship Game
Despite not ending the way they had hoped it would, it was a great season for the Hopewell 5th Grade Girls Travel Basketball Team.
Sunday started with a semifinal matchup for the Lady Vikings against the Blackhawk Cougars.
In a tight contest, Hopewell pulled out a 17-15 win which propelled them into the championship game.
Early on, Hopewell trailed 7-4 but went on an 8-0 run which gave them a lead they’d never lose.
Hopewell Scoring vs. Blackhawk
Rilynn Davis: 8 points
Lydia Jaquay: 4 points
Isla Rock: 3 points
Cora Quinn: 2 points
Unfortunately, Coach Yurcina’s team didn’t have much time to enjoy that win and sit for the next game as 5 minutes after the Blackhawk win, they were back on the court taking on a very talented Aliquippa team.
Hopewell started out well and were tied with Aliquippa at 10 but the Quips followed that up with a 10-0 run to ice the game.
Final Score: Aliquippa 29 Hopewell 16. The Vikings were led by Rilynn Davis who scored 14 points while Neveah Pope scored 2 points.
Following the game, the 5th grade team handed out team awards for this season.
Congratulations to the following players for these awards, which were voted on by the players.
Most Improved: Gia Yurcina and Leah Peterman
Best Teammate: Cora Quinn
Team MVP: Rilynn Davis
Congrats to the 5th grade team on a great season and thank you Coach Yurcina, Coach Kurta and Coach Davis for the time you invested into coaching these players.
Go VIKINGS!
