Hopewell JV Girls Volleyball Team Wrap Up Team Camp at Slippery Rock This Week
The future of Hopewell Girls Volleyball is working to get better!
Hopewell assistant head coach Kallan Parker and the girl’s junior varsity team participated in a 3-day team camp at Slippery Rock University that concluded today.
The Hopewell girls’ that participated were:
Sophomores: Mikayla Kurta, Chloey Clark, Ayla Pisano, Ella Biskup, Emily Crisi
Freshmen: Teagan Murray, Lily Oldham, Malia Veloz, Hannah McDowell, Sydney Malackanich, Addison Pavlisko, Cici Smetana, Madeline Earley
“Our JV team is full of budding talent,” said Coach Parker. “While we did not win many games, we were able to perform well against varsity teams at the camp, which was very exciting. Each girl was given personal goals to work on throughout the camp and I think it was great to see many of them grow and progress through their goals.”
Participating in these sort of team camps is something that Hopewell head coach Terry Borkovic has done with his teams throughout the years because of the benefits that they receive.
“I believe team camp provides an opportunity to compete against other teams,” Coach Borkovic tells HSN. “At this point in the summer, we will have an answer as to where we need to focus our skill development going forward. Team camp also provides a bonding experience. I attended the camp this morning to observe the girls in a competitive environment. Every player I spoke with said that they had a great experience.”
“Slippery Rock Team Camp is unique in that it provides instruction, team bonding, and competition. Most volleyball team camps offer tournament competition only. I feel Slippery Rock Team Camp is perfect for a junior varsity team. Hopewell and Grove City were the only two JV teams participating. I’m not sure of the final record but the Hopewell girls held their own against varsity teams. I’m proud of them!”
This week at Slippery Rock isn’t the first time this group of girls have worked this summer. Along with this, the Hopewell staff has held unofficial workouts in the gym along with other conditioning activities and Coach Borkovic is excited about the future of Hopewell Girls Volleyball.
“This JV team has a lot of potential,” said Borkovic. “They are solid in all areas, attacking, serve receive, blocking and setting. They are a “tight” group. They enjoy playing alongside each other. They also have high energy. Overall, I’m pleased with their development, and I enjoy watching them play!”
