Hopewell Girls Volleyball Team Opens PIAA Playoffs Tonight

Published

on

Following an impressive showing in the WPIAL playoffs in which they finished as runner up to Quaker Valley, the Hopewell Girls Volleyball team will return to the court tonight.

The Lady Vikings open up the PIAA 2A playoffs tonight and will have to make a long bus trip. Hopewell will be bussing to Johnstown to take on Richland High School.

Richland is the District 6 Champion and will bring a record of 19-1 into tonight’s matchup, which will get underway at 7 PM. Hopewell will carry a record of 17-3 into this first-round match, with all three of their losses coming against Quaker Valley.

Hopewell Sports Nation got a quick comment from Vikings head coach Terry Borkovic about tonight’s opponent.

“They are a big, strong, physical team,” said Borkovic. “They have a size advantage over us. We will need to serve well. We need to generate a strong offense.”

“We were not up to our usual standards offensively last Saturday. The team is excited and looking forward to the challenge.”

If Hopewell is able to get my this first round matchup, they would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday to take on the winner of the match between Corry and Neshannock.

In case you’re interested in attending tonight’s match, Richland High School is located at 1 Academic Avenue in Johnstown (15904).
