Hopewell Junior High Softball Survives Late Scare, Beats South Side 8-7
The Hopewell Junior High Softball team didn’t make things easy on themselves today.
The Vikings got out to a 7-run lead and then had to withstand a late rally by South Side to hold on for an 8-7 win.
After seeing South Side get a run in the first inning, Hopewell responded in a big way as they scored 6 runs of their own. The big hit in the inning was 2-run double by Bella Cipolla.
In the second inning, Cipolla brought in another run with a walk to make the score 7-1 Hopewell.
For the game, Hopewell collected 14 hits. Lily Enders led the way with 3 hits, Lillian Otto and Madeline Early each had two apiece. As far as RBIs, Cipolla collected 3 and Maddison Pontis also drove in 3.
Abby Babinsack was the starting pitcher for Hopewell and picked up the win as she went seven innings, striking out one and walked three.
With Babinsack only striking out 1, she needed help from her defense, and she received it this afternoon. The Vikings didn’t commit a single error in the field, while also turning a double play. Hopewell’s Cadence Zito had the most chances in the field as she fielded seven plays.
Congrats Hopewell on your 3rd win of the season. Next up is a road game at Keystone Oaks.
Go Vikings!!
