⚾️ Vikings: Colt Baseball: Hopewell Splits Saturday Doubleheader vs. Beaver Falls ⚾️
It was an action-packed Saturday at Hopewell as Hopewell battled Beaver Falls in back-to-back games, showing grit, determination, and plenty of Viking pride.
Game 1: Beaver Falls 18, Hopewell 8
Hopewell came out swinging in the opener, jumping to an early lead in the first inning behind a walk from Mason Santamaria, a walk from Connor Reed, and a clutch single from Tyler Hoffman that plated two runs. Jaxsen Covalt added two hits, while Hoffman led the way with three RBIs. The Vikings showed patience at the plate, working for seven walks as a team.
Despite the strong start, Beaver Falls surged back with a big second inning and held on for the win.
Game 2: Hopewell 2, Beaver Falls 1 (Walk-Off!)
The second game was a thriller! Down 1-0 in the fifth, Hopewell rallied in dramatic fashion, walking it off with two runs to secure the 2-1 victory. Tyler Hoffman put pressure on the Beaver Falls defense by having a solid hit to shortstop, which led to the Vikings walk off scoring Owen Ackerman to tie the game and Mason Santamaria scoring the winning run.
Owen Ackerman set the tone on the mound, striking out five and allowing just one hit over three innings. Channing Yesionek was dominant in relief, pitching two shutout innings with four strikeouts and no walks to close out the win.
At the plate, Reed Budavich and Ethan Adams came up big with hits back-to-back in the lineup, while Ackerman and Santamaria each drew a walk to help set up the late rally. Adams and Budavich also each swiped a base, keeping the pressure on Beaver Falls’ defense.
Defensively, the Vikings were sharp, making key plays to keep the game close and giving their pitchers the support they needed.
💙💛 The Hopewell showed resilience—bouncing back after a tough first game and proving that Hopewell Baseball never gives up.
