Emergency Notification: Hopewell Area School District
I am reluctant to post this as I struggle with providing this situation with anymore attention then it should receive but since it’s related to the safety of our students, friends and families I wanted to ensure it was received as the message came out late last night/early this morning, most of you are probably aware but in case you missed it here is an emergency email from Dr. Beltz regarding kids safety today at school.
“September 12, 2024
HASD Families,
I apologize for sending this late email. A phone blast will not take place tonight due to the lateness of sending this message. Also, the school schedule for Friday, September 13, 2024 is not being altered at this time.
However, I am emailing tonight to alert families that the Hopewell Area School District is aware of social media posts circulating which warned of a possible threat at “Hopewell Junior High” tomorrow. Hopewell Township Police are also aware, and there will be additional police officers present throughout district schools tomorrow. Schools will operate on a normal schedule.
As I have received some inquiries and I would like to respond globally, should a parent/guardian ever feel the need to keep their student home from school due to concerns related to safety, weather, illness, etc., those are family decisions which parents/guardians are permitted to make for their student. The district simply asks that an excuse be submitted stating the reason for the absence per protocol.
I again apologize for the late email. The district will continue to monitor for additional social media posts. I also ask families to have conversations with their children about the proper use of social media, and threats should always be immediately reported to parents, police, and administrators. “
Thank you,
Jeff Beltz
Superintendent
Hopewell Area School District
