Hopewell HS Girls Soccer Competes but Loses to Quaker Valley, 3-0

The Hopewell High School Girls soccer team has been challenged at the start of the 2024 season.

Not only have their first three games been on the road but two of their opponents (Avonworth and Quaker Valley) have been perennial powers in girls’ soccer.

Although they’re still looking for their first win of the season, the Lady Vikings have been very competitive, including their last match a 2 OT loss to Ambridge and last night’s 3-0 loss to the Quaker.

The challenge early on in the season has been finding a way to generate offense as goalkeeper Allison Ramaley has been a strength in net and given them a chance to win.

LAST NIGHT’S GAME RECAP:

1st HALF:

*At 28:46, Quaker Valley opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead.

*Less than 2 minutes later, QV’s lead increased to 2-0.

*Later in the 1st Half, Hopewell’s Angela Campbell with a good chance on net but the Quaker Valley goalie makes a better save. The score remains 2-0.

*Right before the half, Hopewell gets a corner kick, Maggie Egenlauf with a chance but it’s knocked out of bound past the net.

HALFTIME- QUAKER VALLEY 2 HOPEWELL 0

2ND HALF:

*The first good chance for Hopewell in the 2nd half came from junior Grace Anne Hochmuth but once again the QV goalkeeper comes up with the save.

*Later in the match, Hopewell’s Caylee Sundy, Maggie Hochmuth and Angela Campbell with opportunities but they were denied.

*As mentioned earlier, Hopewell goalkeeper Ramaley was terrific in net with a number of saves or the score wouldn’t have been just 2-0 at this point.

*With 10:28 left, Quaker Valley gets a penalty kick, and they convert. Quaker Valley 3-0.

FINAL SCORE: QUAKER VALLEY 3 HOPEWELL 0

After starting the season on the road for three games, Hopewell will play their first home game of 2024 on Monday as they host Riverside. The match from Tony Dorsett Stadium will begin at 6:30 PM.
