Hopewell Girls Clutch In End Beat Beaver, 34-31
The Hopewell Girls basketball team had their biggest game of the 2023-24 season tonight.
The Vikings hosted the Beaver Bobcats with not only second place on the line but also some cushion in the section for a playoff spot,
The Hopewell community was challenged on social media the past few days to come out to Hopewell High School and support the Lady Vikings and the people in the community responded by nearly filling the gymnasium.
Tonight’s game was a defensive battle and a contest where Hopewell had to be mentally tough and come up big in key moments and they did both. Two big keys to tonight’s win were free throws and rebounds.
1st Quarter Recap:
*Following a steal at mid court, Maya Richburg was fouled on a layup attempt. She went on to make 1-2. Hopewell 1-0
*Following a defensive rebound, Caylee Sundy drove the length of the court for a layup. Hopewell 3-0
*Later in the quarter, Avery Boyd with a nice entry pass in the paint to Sundy for a layup off the glass. Hopewell 5-0
End of 1st Quarter: Hopewell 5 Beaver 3
2nd Quarter Recap:
*Once again, Sundy gets the defensive rebound and races to the hoop for 2. Hopewell 7 Beaver 5
*Boyd shows her range as the freshman knocks down a 3. Hopewell 11 Beaver 10
*Hopewell comes with a steal, Boyd grabs the loose ball and in transition funds Sundy for 2. 13-13
*With less than 10 seconds in the quarter, Sundy with the rebound and sharp pass to Richburg for converts the layup.

3rd Quarter Recap:
*Boyd with a strong take to the hoop, gets fouled and goes on to make 2 FT’s. Beaver 20 Hopewell 17
*Following a Beaver 3, Richburg answers with a 3 of her own. Beaver 23 Hopewell 20
*Following a Beaver turnover, Sundy gets fouled and goes on to make 2 FT’s. Beaver 23 Hopewell 22

4th Quarter Recap:
*Sundy drives to the hoop and kicks out to Allison Ramaley who hits the corner jumper. Hopewell 25-24
*Boyd with a nice bounce pass to a cutting Sundy, who gets fouled. She’d make both FT’s to give Hopewell the lead for good. Hopewell 28-26
*Richburg with a steal, gets fouled shooting and makes 1-2. Hopewell 29 Beaver 26
*With 2:20 left, Caylee Sundy with a nice pass to her sister, Christy, for a layup. Hopewell 31 Beaver 26
*Off an inbounds pass, Ramaley is fouled and makes 1 of 2. Hopewell 32 Beaver 26
*With seconds left and Hopewell leading by 2, Richburg makes 1 of 2.

Hopewell improves their overall record to 9-7 and 4-2 in the section. Up next, a game on Monday against first place Blackhawk.
