Tonight Is Senior Night For Hopewell High School Wrestling

Published

Plenty of positive things going on these days concerning Hopewell athletics, including the High School Wrestling team.

Vikings head coach Brett Smith is doing great things with the program as the Vikings finished second in their section this season and have qualified for the upcoming WPIAL Playoffs.

Tonight, the program will be honoring two wrestlers this evening as it’s Senior Night for the varsity program. Isaiah Pisano and Brettan Cooper will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the program over the years. Pisano has already announced a commitment to attend and wrestle next year at Pitt-Johnstown.

“I am very proud to have had the opportunity to coach both Isaiah and Brettan from the youth level and now making it full circle to come back and be their coach for their senior year,” Hopewell Head Wrestling Coach Brett Smith tells HSN. “They both are perfect examples of what Hopewell Wrestling strives to create in young men of strong character, work ethic and respect for everyone around them. I wish them nothing but the very best in whatever may come in their promising futures.”

“I am very pleased with the growth of our young team this season from not only our athletes but coaches as well,” says Smith. “We are striving to continue to build a winning tradition and culture within the district. Led by our senior captain Isaiah Pisano, we have a very promising young team with a bright future. Underclassmen who have been big contributors to this year’s success in qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs and going 5-1 in the section this season are our sophomore 114-pounder Derrick Reilly, junior captain 145-pounder Jacob Bauknight and junior 172-pounder Austin Gouza.”

We’d also like to recognize the great job that head coach Cody Mcollough and the Hopewell Junior High Wrestling program are doing. The Vikings junior high team is undefeated this year, which shows that the future is definitely exciting for Hopewell wrestling!

By the way, the Senior Night ceremony begins at 6:45 PM, with the match against North Catholic beginning at 7 PM.
