Hopewell Gold Team Tested but Out Physicals West Allegheny

Published

on

Coach Doug Biega’s Gold Team were in unfamiliar territory as they were coming off a loss before Christmas break to South Fayette.

This was the reason Biega made the decision to schedule up this season as he wanted this group of players to be tested. They received that test last game against South Fayette, losing on a 3-point shot at the buzzer. The Vikings took on another solid program today as they hosted West Allegheny.

At halftime, Hopewell only led by a point but in the second half, they outmuscled West Allegheny to pick up a hard earned win.

1st Quarter Recap:
*Offensive rebounding was a theme in today’s game and led to Hopewell’s first basket as James Armstrong  grabbed a rebound and dribbled end to end for a layup. Hopewell 2-0

*Armstrong grabs the rebound, outlets it to Rock, who dribbles and connects with a streaking Armstrong for 2. Hopewell 4-0

*Brody Rocks gets involved as he pulls down an offensive board and hits Jack Biega, who hits a mid-range jumper. Hopewell 6-2

*More rebounding, this time it’s Avery Bokor who dishes to Biega, who finishes in the paint. Hopewell 12-4

*More Biega as he steals a pass underneath the hoop and converts a layup. Hopewell 14-8

End of 1st Quarter: Hopewell 14 West Allegheny 8

2nd Quarter Recap

Halftime: Hopewell 22 West Allegheny 21

3rd Quarter Recap
*Bokor misses a jumper but Armstrong grabs the rebound and puts it back up for 2. Hopewell 24-21

*Following a missed FT, it’s Armstrong with another rebound and 2 points.

*Bokor comes up with a steal and takes it in for 2 more. Hopewell 30-23

*More defense, this time it’s Biega with the steal, misses a layup but Bokor gobbles up the rebound for 2. Hopewell 32-23

No rest for the Hopewell Junior High team as they’re back in action tomorrow as they host Quaker Valley.
