Hopewell Jr. High Basketball Blue Team Battles But Falls Short Against Avonworth, 44-37
Although the Hopewell Junior High Blue Team fell short today, the encouraging thing is that their compete level is getting much better.
In their last game against Blackhawk, they were within 8 points with 4 minutes left in the game before losing 47-34.
This afternoon against Avonworth, Hopewell led for much of the game before running of out gas in the 4th quarter.
Congratulations to Hopewell’s Zack Sampson for scoring a game-high 21 points and being the best player on the court. At times, he was dominating and very hard for Avonworth to contain.
1ST QUARTER SUMMARY
-Hopewell with a defensive rebound and off the outlet, Sampson takes it all the way in for 2. Hopewell 2-0.
-New entry pass down low by Josh Gill to Andrew Arzberger, who gets fouled shooting and goes on to make his 2 FT’s. Hopewell 4-0.
-Next time down, Luke Vukovcan, in the middle of the key with a nice entry pass to Nykyeron Leonora, who gets fouled shooting. Leonora makes 1 of 2 from the line. Hopewell 5-0.
-Hopewell breaks the press and Sampson takes it coast to coast for 2. Hopewell 7-2.
-Vukovcan with a missed shot, but Arzberger gets the offensive rebound and 2. Hopewell 9-2.

2ND QUARTER SUMMARY
-Once again, Sampson breaks the press with a quick dribble and takes it in for a layup. Hopewell 11-5.
-Gill knocks down a 3 from the wing. Hopewell 14-5.
-Sampson shows his range as he knocks down a corner jump shot. Hopewell 18-12
-Hopewell hits the boards, Sampson with an offensive rebound and converts for 2. Hopewell 21-16.
HALFTIME: HOPEWELL 21 AVONWORTH 16
3RD QUARTER SUMMARY
-Sampson uses his size advantage as he backs a guy in and hits a turnaround in the paint. Hopewell 25-18.
-Sampson with a spin on the baseline back into the paint for 2 more. Hopewell 27-20.
-With 2 minutes left in the quarter, defense leads to offense as Arzberger comes up with a blocked shot, Sampson gets the rebound and takes it all the way in for 2. Hopewell regains the lead 29-28.
-Sampson knocks down a 3 from the wing. Hopewell 32-28.
END OF 3RD QUARTER: HOPEWELL 32 AVONWORTH 30
4TH QUARTER SUMMARY
-The game is tied at 32 with 4:24 left, Gill hits a corner jumper. Hopewell 34-32.
-Avonworth then went on a huge run as they knocked down 3 or 4 three-point shots and Hopewell went cold.
Hopewell can’t make a comeback as they lose 44-37. The Vikings fall to 0-4 with their next game on Monday at home against Moon.
