A&S Federal Credit Union “Money Moment” of the Game

When looking at the final score, you’d think that the offense was the story line of Hopewell’s impressive 56-13 win over New Brighton.

Don’t get me wrong, they were impressive and moved up and down the field seemingly at will for a majority of the game, but the defense was equally as impressive.

In our first A&S Federal Credit Union “Money Moment” of the Game, we’re going to highlight the efforts of Coach Baldwin’s defensive unit.

Looking back at what happened in the 1st half, Hopewell’s defensive just swarmed New Brighton’s quarterback Brian Taylor, Jr. and gave him virtually no time in the pocket.

After not being effective on the ground in their first few drives, New Brighton virtually abandoned the run and put the ball exclusively in Taylor’s hands which played right into the hands of Hopewell’s defense.

Here’s a look at what happened in the 1st half and take a look at the performance of the Vikings defense:

1st Drive: Hopewell forces a 3 and out.

2nd Drive: New Brighton TD as they complete two big pass plays.

3rd Drive: Hopewell forces a 3 and out.

4th Drive: Logan Triscila with nice athletic play for first career interception.

5th Drive: Hopewell forces a 3 and out. Defensive end James Gill with a nice pass rush to force an incompletion on 3rd and 8.

6th Drive: Linebacker Thomas Pipkins III with a blitz up the middle, forces a quick throw and Justin Obeldobel comes down with the interception.

7th Drive: Defensive back Isaiah Pisano jumps the route and returns interception for 60+ yards.

8th Drive: New Brighton goes for it on 4th and 4 at midfield and Ethan Pletcher records his first sack of the season.

This was a nice bounce back effort for the Vikings defense and they’ll need more of these types of efforts if they’re going to be able to achieve their ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2023 playoffs.
