HV Varsity Cheerleaders Host Clinic!
The Hopewell High School Varsity Cheerleaders have hosted another successful clinic, this time being with the middle schoolers.
This clinic was hosted on January 29th and 30th, with performances at last night’s Varsity basketball game. “Like our first clinic with the youth ages, we are excited to showcase what it is like to be a varsity cheerleader at the basketball game,” said Head Coach Kelly Waibel. During those two days, the high school cheerleaders taught them multiple different cheerleading techniques, basketball sidelines, a dance, and two cheers.
Throughout the basketball game, the cheerleaders and junior vikes gave a couple different performances to showcase what they have been taught. In between the first and second quarter, the cheerleaders went out and conducted one of their cheers they learned called “Here We Go.” At halftime, their last presentation was a band dance called “High V, Low” and their second cheer called “Fight Vikes Fight.”
The purpose of these clinics is to provide an overview on how high school cheerleading will run and getting into more difficult movements and motions. The proceeds of this event support the current high school cheerleaders.
Senior Kristina Lucas feels very passionate about having this opportunity, “Getting to meet so many new faces and getting to know new individuals has been so exciting. I also love how many girls are interested in the program and want to prepare for an upcoming season!” Me being a varsity cheerleader, I love helping with the clinics and knowing that I am helping build up the team’s future Vikings. Both the elementary and middle school clinics were honestly one of the best memories I have as a Varsity cheerleader because I just love helping these kids. I remember going to clinics when I was young and I always left so happy and pleased, so I would like to keep passing that on. For all high school sports, clinics help a lot with different techniques including skill development, understanding expectations, and building a community, that is why it is so important that we want to continue having these programs together in the next couple years.
The 2025-2026 tryout information will be announced coming up on HSN.
