Hopewell Varsity Softball Hosts 5th Annual Clinic, Prepares for Spring Season

Today, the Hopewell Varsity Softball team held its 5th annual clinic, welcoming youth softball players from the community for a day of skill-building, teamwork, and inspiration. The event, a longstanding tradition, aims to strengthen community ties and provide young girls with positive role models who excel both on the field and in the classroom.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Ronda Koblek, who has led the team for seven seasons, the clinic gave participants the chance to learn from the best. Coach Koblek, who also coaches the Ohio Blast travel team and has experience coaching at the University of Akron, has made a significant impact on Hopewell’s softball program. Her leadership has helped mold a team that not only excels in sports but emphasizes the importance of education and personal growth.

The clinic saw a fantastic turnout, with young athletes eager to fine-tune their skills in preparation for the upcoming Spring season. It was clear that the energy was high, as players participated in drills and learned valuable techniques to sharpen their game. The event also emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, core values that the Hopewell softball program strives to instill in all its players.

This year, the team’s senior leaders—Kara Barkovich, Victoria Mann, Tallulah Showrank, and Isabella Katkich—are set to take the reins and lead the team back to the playoffs. Their leadership, both on and off the field, will be crucial as the team embarks on another competitive season.

The season officially kicks off with an away game against New Castle High School on March 10, 2025, at 4:00 PM. The game will be held at George Washington Intermediate School, and the team is excited to get the season underway with high hopes of making a deep playoff run.

In addition to the clinic, the Hopewell Varsity Softball team is gearing up for its 3rd Annual Wing Bash, a fundraiser that has become a staple in supporting the program. The event will take place on February 22nd from 7:00 to 10:30 PM at the Monaca Turners, located at 1700 Old Brodhead Rd., Monaca, PA 15061. Tickets are $25 and provide all-you-can-eat wings, fries, and beer (21+ only). The night promises plenty of fun, and raffle prizes include a DeMarini bat, a Wilson 2000 infielder glove, and more.

The Wing Bash has consistently been a success, with local sponsors and the residents of Hopewell coming out in full support of the team. The funds raised will go toward general team expenses, field maintenance, and the installation of new pitching and batting cages—crucial upgrades to enhance the team’s training. Last year, the Wing Bash helped fund the team’s trip to the Cal Ripken Experience in Tennessee, where they gained invaluable experience both on and off the field.

With the Spring season fast approaching, the Hopewell Varsity Softball team is poised for another exciting year. The clinic today was just the beginning, as the team continues to build community, hone skills, and work together toward a successful season ahead.

💙🥎Don’t miss your chance for their next clinic on February 15th from 12:30-2:30pm 💙🥎

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
