Hopewell Varsity Softball Playoff Bracket Announced!
After a struggling season riddled with injuries the Hopewell Varsity Softball Team has a renewed spirit and high expectations of winning going into this years playoffs.
Hopewell’s record for the season ended at 3-7, with a late section win against Quaker Valley putting them just one game ahead and into the playoffs. Two of Hopewell’s wins this season came against Quaker Valley and the third against Beaver Falls in a blow out win.
Hopewell snagged the 16th Seed in the overall bracket placing them up against the Number 1 Seed Avonworth. This will be a test of everything Hopewell can muster from pitching to hitting to keep pace with a red hot Avonworth team, but as we have seen before in Hopewell the town thrives on the under dog story.
Last years Varsity Baseball team proved that sometimes grit and determination can be enough to rally a team and make a run in the playoffs, am I saying that will happen here, only time will tell.
As it usually does in these types of situations the team will undoubtedly need stellar performances from its three Seniors, Mya Parish, Chloe Nale and Ava Compton as well as underclassmen pitchers Kara Barkovich and Allison Ramaley in order to go deep into the playoffs. Avonworth had a winning season going 9-1 only losing their one game to Deer Lakes. Pitching is the key for this Avonworth team shutting out the opponents in 7 of their 9 games stringing up zeros and only giving up 16 runs the entire season.
Hopewell takes on Avonworth at North Allegheny on Tuesday, May 14th at 5 pm.
