The Hopewell Vikings bowling team concluded their regular season schedule with a matchup against the West Allegheny Indians at Kennedy Lanes on Wednesday.

The boys’ team secured a 5–2 victory over the Indians, finishing in second place in the Southwest Section with an impressive 8–2 record. Freshman Aidan Heppner led all bowlers with a stellar 492 series, while junior Daniel Earley shot a match-high 194 for the Vikings. A special shoutout to junior Colin Roessler, who made a rare JV appearance and threw a career-high 235 game. The Vikings are set to compete at the MAC tournament next weekend before returning to the WPIBL playoffs on February 14th after a one-year hiatus.

The spotlight of the evening, however, belonged to the Hopewell women, who gave the 2nd place Indians a tough challenge. Bowling their best game of the year, the women defeated the Indians in the first game of the match by 50 pins. Although they ultimately lost the match 2–5, the Vikings showcased exceptional skill in close games during the second and third games. Junior captain Jenna Willy led the team with a match-high series of 377. Freshman Krysten Clary, junior Desiree Shepherd, and junior Marissa Platko added their career-high series to the effort, with junior Bayley Carmichael narrowly missing out on her career-high series. The highlight of the match was freshman Annabeth Sembower, who bowled a match-high 150 game and secured her spot in the WPIBL single bowlers tournament next month. Annabeth’s impressive average of 142 pins over the year made her the sole Viking to qualify for the tournament and one of only three freshmen in the entire WPIBL to achieve this feat. The women’s team will participate in their last event of the season at the MAC tournament next weekend.
