🔵⚪ Blue Team Dominates: No-Hitter + Leadoff Blast Powers Vikings! 💣🔥
By Hopewell Sports Nation
The Hopewell Middle School Blue Team delivered a performance that checked every box on Wednesday—dominant pitching, explosive offense, and relentless energy—rolling to a 5-0 shutout victory over Beaver at Orchard Drive.
And it didn’t take long to set the tone.
On the very first pitch of the game, Vincent Smetana stepped in and launched a leadoff home run to right field 💣—an instant spark that ignited the Vikings and put Beaver on their heels from the jump.
But while the offense grabbed the early spotlight, what unfolded on the mound was something truly special.
🧊 Kostrick’s No-Hit Masterpiece
Ryder Kostrick was simply untouchable.
The Vikings’ ace fired a no-hitter over 4.2 innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs, while striking out seven. He commanded the game from start to finish, attacking hitters and never letting Beaver find any rhythm at the plate.
After the game, Kostrick shared what the moment meant—not just for him, but for the entire team:
“It feels really great that I threw the complete game no hitter and it wasn’t just me that made it happen it was everybody, my teammates and my coaches all helped me defensive in the field and talking me up if I was down in the count. Overall I’m really happy that me and my team made the no hitter happen.”
That mindset says everything—this was a total team effort, with defense, energy, and support all playing a role in a special performance.
💥 Timely Offense Breaks It Open
After Smetana’s early fireworks, Hopewell kept applying pressure and blew things open in the fourth inning with a 4-run surge.
The Vikings made the most of their opportunities, turning just four hits into five runs—a testament to their aggressive, smart baserunning and ability to capitalize.
🔥 Offensive Contributors
Even in a balanced attack, several Vikings stood out:
- Vincent Smetana: 1-for-2, HR, 1 RBI, 1 run
- Ryder Kostrick: 1-for-2, 1 run
- Tyler Hoffman: 1-for-2, 1 run
- Kruz Krotec: 1-for-2, 1 RBI
- Dominico Yannessa: RBI, sparked pressure situations
- Mason Santamaria: Patient approach, drew a walk and helped create baserunners
- Rhett Rankin: Quality at-bat, worked a walk to keep innings alive
Those disciplined at-bats from Santamaria and Rankin added to the offensive pressure, proving this lineup can do damage not just with hits—but by grinding out at-bats and getting on base.
🧱 Total Team Effort
Backed by dominant pitching, the defense held steady and played clean baseball when it mattered most. A 0-hit, 0-earned run performance on the mound tells you everything you need to know.
This was a statement win—complete, confident, and dominant.
🟡⚫ Gold Team Battles Back: Big Swings, Bright Moments, and Relentless Effort 💪⚾
On the other side, the Hopewell Gold Team showed exactly what Viking baseball is all about—resilience, fight, and flashes of serious firepower—even in an 8-4 loss to Beaver.
And make no mistake…there was a lot to like in this one.
⚡ Strong Start & Response
Hopewell struck first in the opening inning, with Henry Dunn driving in a run to give the Vikings early momentum.
After Beaver put together a big second inning, the Gold squad didn’t fold—they kept competing, answering with quality at-bats and continuing to put runs on the board.
🔥 Bats Leading the Way
The Vikings lineup had multiple standout performances:
- Austin Gallagher: 2 hits — consistent, confident approach at the plate
- Grant Olson: 2 hits — sparked the offense and kept innings alive
- Anthony Ventresca: Impact both at the plate and on the mound, showing versatility and toughness
- Owen McGovern, Henry Dunn, Christian Yesionek: each drove in a run
This was an offense that produced four runs and showed the ability to string together hits and apply pressure—something that will absolutely translate moving forward.
💪 Competing Through Adversity
Baseball games can turn on a single inning, and despite a tough stretch in the second, the Gold Team never backed down. They continued to battle, put the ball in play, and show growth in all phases of the game.
That kind of response says a lot about this group.
🌱 Building Something Bigger
From top to bottom, this is what makes Hopewell special. The Gold Team continues to develop, improve, and compete with energy—laying the groundwork for future success.
Because in this program, it’s not just about one result—it’s about progress, toughness, and preparing for what’s next.
From a no-hitter on the mound to a gritty offensive showing, both teams represented Hopewell the right way—together, competitive, and always moving forward.
