The stands at Hopewell Memorial Junior High were packed Thursday afternoon as the Hopewell Lady Vikings 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams hosted the Fort Cherry Lady Rangers. With energy in the gym and plenty of school spirit in the crowd, both Viking teams put on an exciting display of teamwork, hustle, and determination.
The 7th grade team opened the afternoon and gave a strong effort from the first serve. The Lady Vikings battled throughout the match, dropping the first set 15–25 before coming back with great momentum in the second. The second set turned into a thrilling back-and-forth battle that had fans on the edge of their seats, with Fort Cherry narrowly taking it 28–26. Standout hits during the match came from Vanessa Kurta, Isla Rock, Kaleah Potter, and Kendall Miller. The team showed great improvement in all areas of the game, combining strong passing, smart sets, aggressive hitting, and solid blocking. The progress they are making as a team is exciting to watch, and the future looks bright for this group of Lady Vikings.
The 8th grade Lady Vikings took the court next, knowing they were facing a tough Fort Cherry team. Hopewell set the tone early, winning a hard-fought first set 25–23 with great teamwork and communication. The second set was one of the most intense of the night, as both teams traded points in a dramatic rally-filled battle before Fort Cherry edged it out 30–28. With the match tied, everything came down to the third and final set. The gym was buzzing with excitement as the Lady Vikings rose to the moment, finishing strong with a 15–9 victory to secure the match.
Throughout the match, Hopewell showed strong offensive play at the net. Big kills came from hitters Afton Budris, Alyssa Phillips, Ariana Fischer, Ellie McCoy, and Amiyah Shell, helping the Vikings maintain pressure on the Rangers. One of the biggest highlights of the night came during the second set when Stella Sannan, playing left back, made an incredible dig that kept the rally alive and set up a great scoring opportunity for the Vikings. It was a moment that perfectly captured the hustle and determination the team showed all game.

Serving was also a key factor in the Vikings’ success. The team combined for 10 service aces, creating important momentum swings throughout the match. Brooke Otto led the way with a strong serving performance that produced multiple aces, while Ariana Fischer added several of her own during key stretches. Sam Holsinger and Alyssa Phillips also contributed aces that helped keep the pressure on Fort Cherry and energized the Viking bench and crowd.
Across the entire match, the Lady Vikings showed excellent teamwork with consistent passes, smart sets, and confident attacking at the net. Every player contributed to the win, and the communication and support between teammates helped drive the team to victory in the decisive third set.
Both Hopewell teams continue to have a strong and competitive season. Each match has been exciting to watch and shows how much the players continue to improve every week.
Make sure to come out and support the Hopewell Lady Vikings next week as they hit the road for Tuesday’s away match at Montour and Thursday’s away match at Avonworth.
