Hopewell K Rocco Marcantonio Receives First D-1 Football Scholarship!
One of the many positives things to come out of the Hopewell Vikings 2024 football season was the emergence of Rocco Marcantonio.
The junior kicker raised eyes brows during camp with his powerful right leg and that continued during the season.
In 10 games, Marcantonio was 30 of 31 on PAT attempts and 9 of 13 on field attempts, including a career long of 55 yards, which tied a WPIAL record.

This success drew the attention of college programs as Rocco made GameDay visits to both Pitt and Penn State.
Last night, Marcantonio made a GameDay visit to Akron for their season finale against Toledo.
The visit paid off as Akron head coach Joe Moorhead and special teams coordinator and WPIAL recruiter Ryan Matviko extended Marcantonio a D-1 scholarship offer. This becomes offer No. 1 for Rocco.
Receiving an offer this early as a kicker isn’t easy but thumbs up to Akron for recruiting Marcantonio and seeing his talent.
Akron finished the 2024 season with two wins, including the big upset last night and under Moorhead, are definitely a program on the rise.
Congrats to Rocco and the Marcantonio family for this tremendous news.
Go Vikings!
