Hopewell Boys Soccer Blank Mohawk, 7-0, on Senior Night

Hopewell Twp- The Hopewell boys soccer team put on quite a performance on Senior Night as they defeated Mohawk, 7-0.

Prior to the game, the 4 Hopewell seniors- Michael Dinardo, Paul Thompson, Sammy Milligan and Tanner Saltzman, were honored and after that it was all Hopewell for the next 80 minutes.

The win improves Hopewell’s record to 7-6 and kept them in contention for the 4th and final playoff spot in Section 2.

From the opening minute till the final buzzer, 95% of this game was played in Mohawk’s side of the field.

Here were the highlights from tonight’s match:

1st Half:

*Opening 30 seconds, Tommy Armour breaks in and dishes a nice pass to Bryce Ray, who just misses a tap-in.

31:52 left- Armour with a nice opportunity from the left has but his shot is stopped by Mohawk goalie.

29:48 left- Tremendous 1-on-1 moves by Armour as he gets by 2 Mohawk players but once again, his shot is stopped.

23:23 left- Hopewell finally puts one in. Armour once again cuts in Mohawk end and slides a pass across to RJ Bushnell for the tap-in goal. Hopewell 1-0.

1:03 left- Bryce Ray with at least three 1-on-1 moves as he somehow kept control of the ball, he got right in front but was denied by the Mohawk goalie, who played well despite allowing 7 goals.

Halftime: Hopewell 1 Mohawk 0

2nd Half:

-Whatever was said by Coach Nathan Richter at halftime worked as Hopewell dominated the next 40 minutes.

37:26 left-  After getting stopped on 3-4 chances, Hopewell connects as Bushnell finds Rocco Marcantonio, who buries it. Hopewell 2-0.

33:36 left-  3 minutes later, Bushnell got control of a loose ball at the 10 yard line and connects for his second goal of the match. Hopewell 3-0.

28:00 left- The combination of Bushnell and Marcantonio strike again as Rocco fires a laser at the net, which is stopped, but Bushnell is there for the rebound goal. It’s the Hat Trick for RJ and Hopewell extends the lead to 4-0.

26:45 left- Less than 2 minutes later, this time it’s Bushnell with the shot on net and Marcantonio with the rebound goal (his 2nd of the match), Hopewell 5-0.

11:12 left- A great moment as one of the seniors score in their final home match. Michael Dinardo buries it from the left wing. Cool moment. Hopewell 6-0.

2:52 left- Maybe the nicest goal of the night. On a corner kick, Jake Kovell with a “full volley” across to Nicco Crivelli, who buries the one-timer. Hopewell 7-0.

For the second consecutive match, Hopewell goalie Tallon Coleman records a shutout!

Hopewell returns to action this Saturday when they host Ellwood City at Noon and then finish the regular season next Tuesday at Keystone Oaks.
