Was it Redemption for the HW Varsity Softball Team?

Published

on

In a highly anticipated rematch between our HW Vikings and Ellwood City the game was full of action. A nail biter all the way through both sides battled and went toe to toe on the mounds! Was it the redemption HW was fighting for, no, but the team played tough and HSN had all the detailed action and photos from the game.

Ellwood City were the first to get on the board in the first when Rylee Prestopine grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, Hopewell Varsity Vikings went back into the lead after Kara Barkovich homered to center field, and Chloe Nale homered to left field, each scoring one run.

Ellwood City took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Prestopine homered to left field, and Alexis Beck grounded out, each scoring one run.

This game was full of back and forth action as each team put up runs back and forth to keep it close the entire game.

Tallulah Showrank stepped up in the sixth and hit a solo home run to answer Preston’s to center field.

Amber McQuistion earned the win for Ellwood City. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking two.

Allison Ramaley took the loss for Hopewell Varsity Vikings. Ally went seven innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits, striking out two and walking two. While the total hits seem high the Vikings defense kept things close stranding those runners on the bases. Allys continued success in pitch to strike ratio continued as she averaged 66% again in her third consecutive outing giving HW a chance to win.

Nale was on fire in the game going 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Hopewell Varsity Vikings in hits. Hopewell Varsity Vikings turned one double play in the game.

As the season moves on the leadership of the HW Seniors will undoubtedly play an important role in how they perform and we can see the confidence building as the team gets deeper into the season.

Next up for our HW Vikings is against Mohawk today at 11, ROLL Vikes!!!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
