Hopewell’s Drill 4 Skill 8th Graders Beat Team from Ohio in AAU Championship Game.
A week after falling short in the championship game, the Drill 4 Skill (Team Biega) got the job done this weekend.
Competing at the Drill 4 Skill Tournament at Slippery Rock University, this team made up mostly of members of the Hopewell 8th grade junior high basketball team beat Team Cure (Ohio) in the championship game, 80-70.
Thus far, this group of six Hopewell kids and 1 7th grader from Aliquippa is 9-1 thus far this AAU season. That’s significant because they’ve entered tournaments where they would be tested, playing in the highest divisions and have gone up against other AAU teams from much bigger communities, which pull in many more players.
On Sunday, Coach Biega’s team played three games to win the championship.
In Game One against Pittsburgh Pros, it was a bloodbath as they won 87-26. Brody Rock led the team in scoring in this game.
In Game Two against Steel City Outlaws, a team from West Allegheny, South Fayette and Moon, Drill 4 Skill won, 63-48. James Armstrong carried the load in this game. Tre Cameron did a very good job defensively and really rebounded well.
In the Championship Game against a very big, very talented “Team Cure” from the Youngstown, Ohio area, D4S won 80-70. Two players had double-doubles, Armstrong with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Jack Biega with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brody Rock also played extremely well.
D4S will look to win another championship this weekend as they take part in another tournament at Cal U University.
