Sunday Recap of Hopewell Players Involved in AAU Basketball Tournaments
For the last couple of weeks, Hopewell Sports Nation has been letting you know about Hopewell athletes that are playing AAU basketball this spring.
We’ll do that again today as we have more players to tell you about and to let you know how they’ve done on Sunday’s bracket play for tournaments.
Hopewell’s Zack Sampson:
-Sampson is a 7th grader at Hopewell Junior High School. Sampson plays for the AAU team Prospects, which playing a tournament in Leetsdale. This team is actually coached by a Hopewell native, Patrick Phillips.
-On Saturday, the Prospects beat the Wexford Warriors, 37-33 and Rise High, 33-30.
-Today, they played Rise High again and won but lost in the championship game in a rematch against the Wexford Warriors. This was their third tournament this spring, winning the Silver Bracket in the first one and getting second place in their second one.
Hopewell’s Rilynn Davis and Callie Sadler:
-Davis and Sadler are 5th graders at Hopewell Memorial Jr. High School and play for the Next Gen Elite Team. They were playing in the 2024 Blue Storm Spring Thunder 5th Grade Grills Tournament. After winning both of their games on Saturday, Davis and Sadler played in and won the championship. Congrats Callie and Rilynn!!
Hopewell’s Emmy Bokor, Piper Bokor and Pacey Bokor:
-The Bokor sisters play for the 4th grade team Drill 4 Skill team, coached by Katherine Bokor. This Drill 4 Skill team has players from Hopewell, Mars, North Allegheny, Beaver and Blackhawk.
-Emmy Bokor with an and one finish to close the game to beat the Court Generals to advance to the championship game where they lost to a 5th grade team called Four Seasons Hoops, 17-10.
-In the two games, Emmy had 6 points, Piper scored 4 and Pacey had 2 points.
Hopewell’s Lydia Jaquay, Ava Ray, Arionna Shell, Amiyah Shell and Ellie McCoy:
-Ray plays for the 13U Flight 724 team, Jaquay plays for the 11u Flight 724 team while McCoy and the Shell’s play for the 12U Flight 724 team. They were competing in the WPA Bruins Tip-off.
-Jaquay’s team went 2-1 this weekend, while Shell and McCoy’s team went 1-2 with both loses being extremely close games.
