Hopewell HS Girls Basketball Loses Tough Game Against Central Valley

Published

on

Last night against Central Valley, the Hopewell High School Girls team was the better team for three quarters.

But as we all know, basketball is a four-quarter game and unfortunately for the Vikings, Central Valley was the better team in the final eight minutes and left Hopewell High School with a 43-36 win. A big storyline last night was the number of fouls that were called in the game. Borth Christy Sunday and Caylee Sundy fouled out and Allison Ramaley played a majority of the game with four fouls. This problem was made worse by the fact that Hopewell, whose depth is limited to begin with, was playing without a valuable starter.

Hopewell finished the 2023-24 season with a section record of 5-5 and has one remaining game, next Monday in a non-conference game against Northgate. This will be Senior Night.

Following the game against Northgate, the Vikings will wait for the WPIAL to unveil the playoff bracket.

Here’s a recap of Monday night’s contest:

1ST QUARTER:
*Sophomore Caylee Sundy opened the scoring by drippling the length of the court and finishing a layup. Hopewell 2-0

*Sundy once again drove the lane but this time, passed it to freshman Marlee Page, who finished. Hopewell 4-0

*Later in the corner, freshman Avery Boyd grabbed a long offensive rebound and drilled a corner 3. Hopewell 7-0

*Boyd pulls down a defensive rebound, drives the court and throws a bounce pass to Caylee Sundy, who scores. Hopewell 9-2

*Nice passing by the Vikings as Sundy connects with Page, who makes her second shot of the game. Hopewell 11-6

*The last basket of the quarter for Hopewell went to senior Christy Sundy who knocks down a foul-line jumper. Hopewell 13-9

END OF QUARTER: HOPEWELL 13 CENTRAL VALLEY 12

2ND QUARTER:
*Boyd shows her outside shooting ability as she makes her second 3 of the game. Hopewell 16-12

*More excellent passing in the paint by Hopewell as Caylee Sundy finds Page. Hopewell 18-12

*Sundy with another nice pass, this time to Boyd, who finishes from with a mid-range jumper. Hopewell 20-16

*With less than a minute in the half, sophomore Allison Ramaley connects on her first field goal of the game. Hopewell 22-18

HALFTIME: HOPEWELL 24 CENTRAL VALLEY 20

3RD QUARTER:
*Defense leads to offense, Boyd with a steal and finishes near the hoop with an acrobatic layup. Hopewell 26-20

*Ramaley with a nice pass inside to Page. Hopewell 28-23

*Transition offense as Ramaley makes a layup to give Hopewell a 7-point lead. Hopewell 30-23

*A Hopewell sister act as Caylee with a pass to Christy, who banks in a 3-point shot. Hopewell 33-23

*This actually turned out to be Hopewell’s last field goal of the game as Caylee Sundy came up with a steal and takes it in for a layup. Hopewell 35-23.

END OF 3RD QUARTER: HOPEWELL 35 CENTRAL VALLEY 25

4TH QUARTER:
–Caylee Sundy fouls out of the game with over 6 minutes left, which was a huge turning point. That was followed by her sister fouling out.

–Central Valley took their first lead of the game with less than 3 minutes in the game and finished the game connecting on a number of free throws.
