Hopewell Junior High Basketball Split Two Games Against Aliquippa
The Hopewell Junior High Basketball program is close to wrapping up their 2023-24 season.
On Friday, the boys had a chance to play at a different home venue, as they hosted a matchup against Aliquippa at Hopewell High School.
This was a cool thing for the boys as many of them hope to be playing on this court in the near future.
Coach Gaguzis and his Blue team had difficulty matching up with Aliquippa’s size and athleticism, especially with their smothering man-t0-man defense and full-court press.
A lot like when they took on Beaver Falls, this is a matchup where they’re the clear underdog but as always, the boys competed hard.
Final Score: Aliquippa 50 Hopewell 18.
The second game of the afternoon was a complete domination by the Hopewell Gold Team.
Everyone knows about the great athletes that come from the Aliquippa school district which makes the complete mismatch in this game all the more impressive.
How about this for a halftime score: Hopewell 31 Aliquippa 2.
That’s not a misprint.
Like it’s been all season, the Vikings team defense and power down low in the paint was the difference. The tenacious on-ball defense by Avery Bokor and Jack Biega was too much for the Quips and when they were able to get the ball down low, it usually resulted in a blocked shot by either James Armstrong or Brody Rock.
The final score was Hopewell 43 Aliquippa 19.
The Vikings improve their overall record to 13-1 with two games remaining: Monday at Quaker Valley and Tuesday at home against Montour.
