Caylee Sundy Ties Hopewell Record in Win Over Ambridge

A huge performance tonight by Caylee Sundy at Hopewell High School highlighted the Vikings 36-point win over Ambridge.

The sophomore guard made eight-pointers tonight, which tied a school record previously held by Amanda Tocci. Sundy finished tonight with a game-high 27 points.

Coach Jeff Homziak’s team never trailed as they raised their overall record to 8-7 and 3-2 in the conference. Hopewell is now tied for second place with Beaver and a game ahead of Central Valley and Quaker Valley.

1st Quarter Recap: 

*Nice ball movement at the top of the key eventually leads to a Sundy 3-ptr. Hopewell 3-0

*Following an Ambridge turnover, Sundy knocks down another 3. Hopewell 6-0

*Following two Ambridge hoops, sophomore Allison Ramaley makes a corner jump shot. Hopewell 8-4

*Sundy’s defense leads to offense as she intercepts a pass and takes it all the way in for a layup. Hopewell 10-4

*Right before the 1Q buzzer, Ramaley throws up a desperation 3 and connects. After making it, she had a smile on her face, combined with being surprised. LOL  Hopewell 13-4

2nd Quarter Recap: 

*First basket of the quarter comes in transition as Sundy finds Maya Richburg underneath, who puts it in. Hopewell 15-4

*On an out of bounds play, Sundy hits a corner 3. Hopewell 18-4

*Christy Sundy connects on a pass to her sister, Caylee, who makes her 4th 3 of the game. Hopewell 21-4

*Then with 15 seconds left in the half, freshman Alana Covalt connects on a 3, her first basket of the game.

*Nice passing leads to a Richburg 2 off the glass. Hopewell 28-6

*Following a defensive rebound, Caylee Sundy with a nice pass to Ramaley for 2. Hopewell 30-6

*More sharp shooting by Sundy for her 6th 3 of the game. Hopewell 36-8

*More transition, Sundy with nice vision finds Covalt for 2. Hopewell 38-6

*3-pointer #7 for Sundy. Hopewell 41-10

*Sundy with another assist, this one to Richburg. Hopewell 43-12

*After Hopewell pulls down 3 offensive rebounds, Sundy connects on her school record 8th 3-pointer of the game.  Hopewell 46-12

*Covalt with her 7th point of the game as he knocks down a deep corner 2. Hopewell 48-14

*Final basket of the game goes to sophomore McKenna Ladson, who makes a nice reverse layup.

Final Score: Hopewell 50 Ambridge 14

Next Game: This is a huge one for Hopewell as they host Beaver. This will be a matchup for sole possession of 2nd place in the section. Tip-off from Hopewell High School is at 6:30 PM. Let’s see if we can fill up the gym and make it a true court advantage on Thursday!
