Hopewell Junior High Demolishes Avonworth, 52-20
Sometimes in athletics, one team is clearly better than the other team and that was certainly the case today between Hopewell and Avonworth.
Only an act of good sportsmanship by head coach Doug Biega allowed the final score to be as close as it ended up being.
Hopewell improved their record to 9-1 with a 32-point win as the Hopewell staff sat his starters the entire second half and gave their reserve players their most playing time of the season.
1st Quarter Recap:
*First possession, James Armstrong with a nice bounce pass to Brody Rock for a layup. Hopewell 2-0
*Next possession, Rock showed he can score from the outside as well as he drained a deep 3-pointer. Hopewell 5-0
*Armstrong with nice anticipation as he jumps a pass and then throws a length of the court pass to Rock for a layup. Hopewell 7-0
*Armstrong then goes to work down low as a grabs an offensive rebound and puts it back in for 2 plus the foul. Hopewell 10-0
*From an in-bounds pass from underneath the hoop, Avery Bokor gets the pass and hits a 3. Hopewell 13-0
*Off another in-bounds, Rock misses a 3-pointer but Armstrong gets the rebound, layup and is fouled. Hopewell 16-0
*Following a defensive rebound, Armstrong finds Bokor, who goes strong to the hoop and converts a layup. Hopewell 18-0
*To end the first quarter, Maddox Fattore hits an outside jump shot. Hopewell 20-0

2nd Quarter Recap:
*Nice set play as Armstrong and Rock connect on a give and go. Hopewell 29-1
*Vikings defense as Bokor with another steal and dishes to Rock for 2. Hopewell 33-1
*Defense, defense, defense, Biega with quick hands and takes it in for an uncontested layup. Hopewell 37-1
*Another steal, this time it’s Fattore, who finishes with a layup. Hopewell 41-3

3rd Quarter Recap:
*Hopewell’s first basket of the 2nd half came on a nice, strong reverse layup by Kareem Hairston. Hopewell 43-7
*Fattore scores his 3rd baskets of the game, this one is a floater off the glass. Hopewell 45-7

4th Quarter Recap:
*Hopewell comes up with a loose ball and Manny Gomez gets the pass and takes it in for an acrobatic layup. Hopewell 47-11
*In a half court set the Vikings spread things out and Jayvion Lindsey goes strong down the lane for 2. Hopewell 49-11
*The last basket for Hopewell comes from hard work down low by Lindsey, who gets his own rebound and puts it back in. Hopewell 52-20
Final Score: Hopewell 52 Avonworth 20
In the first game of the afternoon, the Hopewell Blue team lost to Avonworth, 43-19.
Hopewell is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they’ll host Central Valley. Tip-off from the Junior High School is at 3:30 PM.
