Hopewell High School Boys and Girls Basketball Teams Both Victorious Tonight!

The Hopewell High School Girls and Boys teams were in action tonight as they both took on Riverside.

The good news is that both teams chalked up another victory.

The girls team defeated Riverside by the score of 50-15. With the win, Coach Homziak’s team is now 3-3.

Taking a look at the box score, Hopewell led 17-3 after the 1st quarter, 30-6 at halftime and 44 to 11 after 3 quarters. Leading scorers for Hopewell tonight were Caylee Sundy and Avery Boyd, both with 13.

The boys’ team were also winners, but it wasn’t as easy as the girls had it.

Tonight’s game opened with both teams struggling to get on the scoreboard, but the Vikings did lead by the score of 11-5. The opening quarter box score read like: Zach Kovell 4 points, Zach Gigliotti 3 points, Nazhamere Jeters 2 points and Michael Brown with 2.

The Vikings shooting remained an issue in the 2nd quarter from both inside and outside the 3-point arc. On the other end, Riverside started to pick it up offensively and took a 21-20 led over Hopewell at the half. Scoring in the 2nd quarter for Hopewell were Kovell with 7 point and Gigliotti with 2.

–Following the halftime intermission, Hopewell started to pick things up and outscored Riverside by the score of 21-10 in the 3rd quarter as the Vikings entered the final quarter leading 41-31. A highlight in the 3rd quarter was Kovell and Gigliotti both having strong and 1 finishes. Gigs with the steal and left-handed finish at the rim. Kovell was fouled on the 3 ball from the corner and converted his foul shot to make it a 4-point play.

–The final quarter was tightly played but Hopewell’s big 3rd quarter proved to be the difference. Five different Viking players scored this quarter. Despite their offense not being crisp, the Vikings brought it defensively for all four quarters.

Adams 3 points

Congrats to Coach Mark D’Alessandris and his Hopewell team for starting the season with a record of 5-0.

Next up for Hopewell is a road game on Friday night at Blackhawk. The Vikings will be back home on December 19th against Beaver.
