HV’s Bowling Headed for Southwest Section Title!
The Hopewell Vikings Bowling Team competed on Wednesday at Fair Oaks Lanes for their 7th WPIBL match of the season against the hosting Quaker Valley Quakers.
The Hopewell Lady Vikings defeated the Quakers 7-0 to boost their record to 4-3 and claim their first winning record this late in a season since 2018. The Vikings claimed all five of the highest series in the match and were led by sophomore Annabeth Sembower with a match high 171 game and match high 437 series. Sophomore Krysten Clary added her career high 163 game to the total team win for the Lady Vikings. The Lady Vikings remain in 3rd place in the section with an outside chance at a 2nd place finish depending on how the next few weeks break.
The Viking Boys defeated the Quakers 5-2 in a close match to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year. The Vikings were led by Sophomore Aidan Heppner shooting a match high game of 237 and match high series of 566. Heppner was followed closely by senior captain Daniel Earley with a 226 game and 561 series. Hopewell freshman Nolan Houy added a 207 game to the match. Freshman Thomas Turino made his varsity debut and added his career high game of 172 to the Vikings who will face off in their biggest match of the year next week against division rival Montour for a chance to clinch the Southwestern section title.
The JV Boys won a highly contested match 7-0 in a match that, as a credit to both programs, saw 12 different young men compete for each team. The Vikings were led by senior Cade McIlvain shooting a career high 185 game and career high 465 series. Sophomore Will Holland (163, 448), Senior Lucas Gielata (125), and Freshman Joe Bulebush (125) added their career high games to the total and Holland added his career high series to the match as well.
Team MVPs were awarded to two sophomores: Aidan Heppner for the Boys and Annabeth Sembower for the Lady Vikings. Each winning the award for the second time this season for shooting the match high series in an incredibly important match up for both teams.
The Vikings will host the Montour Spartans in a match at Sheffield Lanes next week that will determine the playoff futures for the Vikings. Hope to see you at Sheffield Lanes next Wednesday for this huge match!
