Aliquippa Wins Court Appeal, Staying in 4A
The Aliquippa is synonymous with winning and today the Quips received another huge victory off the playing field.
After weeks of courtroom testimony, Common Pleas Judge James Ross issued a preliminary injunction today against the PIAA stating that Aliquippa will stay in 4A for the 2024 season.
This ruling goes against a previous decision by the PIAA that had Aliquippa moving up to 5A under the PIAA competitive-balance rule.
The Aliquippa lawyers argued that moving the team up to 5A was unfair and potentially physically harmful, having to play against school districts three to four times larger.
Aliquippa presented witnesses such as orthopedic surgeons Stephen Hribar and Patrick DeMeo, superintendent Phillip Woods, athletic director Jennifer Damico, and football coach Mike Warfield.
The WPIAL has already issued Aliquippa a 2024 schedule and that will have to be redone.
