BREAKING: John Rosa Will Not Coach Hopewell Football; Accepts Another Position

Some surprising news concerning the Hopewell High School football program.

John Rosa is no longer the head coach at Hopewell and won’t be the head football coach of the football program.

It was officially announced today that Rosa was offered and has accepted the athletics director’s position at Winchester Thurston School, one of the top private schools in Pittsburgh.

Winchester Thurston was established in 1887 and since then, has grown into a distinguished independent, coeducational, college preparatory school that has received national recognition. Winchester Thurston has a student body of 674 students.

Rosa accepted the head coaching position five months ago and was rumored to be the top candidate to replace Don Short as Hopewell’s Athletic Director.

The timing of his announcement isn’t ideal as spring football workouts began this evening at the High School. These workouts will continue and will be run by Rosa’s assistant coaches.

The Hopewell School District will now have the task of deciding where they want to go with the coaching position. Considering the timing, it would appear they’d have two options: 1) allow a member of the current coaching staff to become the interim head coach for the upcoming season and reevaluate the job following the offseason and conduct another coaching search. 2) possibly hire a candidate that they interviewed during the original coaching search back in January. This option could be difficult because we’re already at the end of May and the season will start in 3 months.

Keep in mind, Hopewell still has to fill the athletic director’s position, with Short scheduled to leave at the start of July.
