HV’s Boys WPIBL Championships – Coaches Report!

The Hopewell Vikings sent four boys to compete in the WPIBL Individual Championships on Wednesday at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.
The tournament featured the top 134 male bowlers from the WPIBL this year with averages ranging from 224 pins per game to 170 pins per game. In order to qualify for this event, bowlers had to appear in 21 varsity games and maintain a minimum average of 170. The top 40 finishers in the event earned their chance to compete in the PA Western Regional Finals next week at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.
The lanes were incredibly challenging once again and of 134 bowlers, only 23 bowlers were able to shoot their average while 110 bowlers missed theirs by an average of 63 pins.
Senior captain Daniel Earley led the Vikings with a 547 series to finish 37th overall in the event and 19th among seniors. This will be Earley’s first qualification into the Western Regional Finals.
Sophomore Ayden Gault shot a 513 series and finished 72nd overall and 10th among sophomores. Gault missed the cut for the Regional Finals by 33 pins.
Sophomore Aidan Heppner shot a 440 series and finished 125th overall and 25th among sophomores.
Freshman Max Butter shot a 431 series and finished 127th overall and 7th among freshman.
All four Vikings were making their first appearance in the WPIBL Championships. For senior Daniel Earley, this will be his first and only appearance, but underclassmen Ayden Gault, Aidan Heppner and Max Butter will look to make repeat appearances.
Sophomore Annabeth Sembower will represent the Lady Vikings and compete in the Women’s WPIBL Championship tomorrow at 2pm.
