Hopewell Sports Nation Welcomes Newest Student Writer- Amelia McCloskey
On March 24th, Amelia McCloskey, whom some of the readers may recognize as being the 100th Miss San Rocco, has decided to join Hopewell Sports Nation as a student writer.
At Hopewell Sports Nation, Carl Santamaria, Owner of HSN, has always looked for well rounded indiviuals whom have a passion for sports. Amelia is involved in the Hopewell Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team as well as the Varsity Track and Field Team. She is involved in many extra curricular activites, some of which include NHS, Class Club of 2027, Youth Ambassador Program, Prom Committee Member, Italian Club Member, Jumpstart Financial Literacy teacher, SHOUT Club, Link Crew, PowderPuff Committee Member, and San Rocco Festa Member.
When interviewing Amelia, she had a few main points that she wanted our readers to know and her backstory…
“Hi HSN, I am Amelia McCloskey, a junior at Hopewell. I am super excited to have the opportunity to write about and cover sports and special events. I am currently on the Girls Varsity Basketball team, and very involved in HHS clubs and the community. I grew up playing soccer, softball, basketball, track & field, and cheerleading, where I eventually took a huge interest in basketball. From playing youth basketball for Hopewell, or playing AAU basketball for Strick Hoops, to varsity basketball, every step of the way and every hardship I faced shaped me into the player and the person I am today. The 2025-26 basketball season, however, didn’t go the way I expected. I suffered an injury in the summer, tearing ligaments in my ankle, which resulted in needing surgery. Through the ups and downs, sports are what kept me going. I always hope to be a great teammate, whether I am on the court or cheering on my team from the sidelines. I have obtained a passion for writing about sports as I feel that there are many great athletes, teams, and events that should be showcased in the community. Something that really sticks out to me is the lack of community support over the years for girls’ sports. My hope is to use articles to spread awareness for all Hopewell sports teams, for girls and boys.”
Amelia is one of my close friends, and I have always known her to have a passion for sports and helping others. I look forward to working with her in a different atmosphere, and I know she will bring great things with her to HSN.
