Hopewell HS Girls Basketball Team Drops Season Opener to Keystone Oaks

Published

on

South Side– The Hopewell High School Girls basketball team opened their 2024-25 season this afternoon as they took on Keystone Oaks in the South Side Tipoff Event.

Today’s game resembled an early season game as Hopewell was mostly cold shooting, were just a step slow as they worked to learn their roles this season. As a result, the Vikings struggled, losing to Keystone Oaks, 55-38.

A couple of things that Hopewell will definitely need to improve on is their rebounding (both offensively and defensively) as well as finishing around the basketball.

The good thing about a basketball season is that there are plenty of games for Hopewell to improve and meet their goal of playing their best in section play and to qualify for the playoffs.

A definite positive to come out of today’s game was a couple of freshmen played in their first varsity game and had a good accounting for themselves.

Addison Blosnick and Cici Smetana were on the court a lot and the stage of varsity action didn’t seem too big for them as they both got better as the game went on.

1ST QUARTER:
*The first basket of the season for Hopewell was scored by Caylee Sundy, who converted a layup in transition. Keystone Oaks 6-2.

*More transition for the Vikings, as Avery Boyd located Sundy, who knocked down her first 3-pointer of the season. Keystone Oaks 6-5.

*Later in the quarter, Bosnick pulls down an offensive rebound and locates Sundy for converts again. Keystone Oaks 11-9.

*Nice in-bounds play for the Lady Vikings, as Sundy finds Maya Richburg for 2. Keystone oaks 13-11.

*With :18 seconds left in the quarter, Boyd grabs an offensive rebound, makes the layup and is fouled. Keystone Oaks 20-16.

END OF 1ST QUARTER: KEYSTONE OAKS 20 HOPEWELL 16

2ND QUARTER:
The start of the second quarter is where Hopewell dug themselves a hole that was too big to get out of. Keystone Oaks outscored them 13-2 to start the second frame.
