Former Hopewell Star Joe Rock Getting Closer to MLB
Former Hopewell Vikings baseball standout Joe Rock received some good news on Tuesday.
Yesterday was the Major League Baseball deadline for teams to set their 40-man rosters and the Tampa Bay Rays decided to protect the left-handed pitcher.
Rock, 24, was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 2nd Round of the 2021 Draft but was traded last season to Tampa Bay.
Last season in AAA, Rock had a solid season going 7-8 while logging 139 innings with a 4.58 ERA, 132 strikeouts, 21.6 strikeout rate, 5.7% walk rate and 45.3% ground ball rate.
Rock is currently ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the Tampa Bay organization.
During his Hopewell Vikings career, the 6-foot-6 lefty had a standout 2017 season when he went 8-3 with a 1.30 ERA.
After graduating in 2018, Rock went on to star at Ohio University.
