Hopewell HS Boys Soccer Open Season with 8-0 Shutout Over Ellwood City
Much optimism surrounds the future of the Hopewell High School Boys’ soccer program.
Following a playoff appearance and win last season, new Hopewell head coach Nathan Richter takes over and brings a new style of play and plenty of winning experience.
It also helps that the core of this Hopewell team are underclassmen, so they’ll be around for multiple seasons which will give them time to really learn and understand his system.
Last night, the Vikings opened the regular season with an away game at Ellwood City and had no problems as they overwhelmed the Wolverines, 8-0. Because of the lopsided score, Coach Richter used the circumstances to allow his JV squad to play the entire second half.
Here’s a summary of the eight goals scored last night by the Vikings:
1ST HALF:
Hopewell Goal- Junior Bryce Ray on a header from junior Tommy Armour. Hopewell 1-0.
Hopewell Goal- 9th grader Nykyeron Leonora with the goal with an assist from Armour. That was Nykyeron’s first varsity goal. Hopewell 2-0.
Hopewell Goal- Alex Alvarado with the tally with the assist from Ray. Hopewell 3-0.
Hopewell Goal: Sophomore RJ Bushnell with his first of the season! Hopewell 4-0.
Hopewell Goal: Ray with his second of the night with an assist from Armour. Hopewell 5-0.
Hopewell Goal: Bushnell with his second of the night with Armour picking up another assist. That was his fourth helper of the game. Hopewell 6-0.
HALFTIME HOPEWELL 6 ELLWOOD CITY 0
2ND HALF:
Hopewell Goal: Caine Sullivan with a free kick goal. That was Caine’s first varsity goal. Hopewell 7-0.
Hopewell Goal: Tyler Armour with his first varsity goal. Congrats Tyler. Hopewell 8-0.
FINAL SCORE HOPEWELL 8 ELLWOOD CITY 0
Hopewell (1-0) starts the season with a win and congratulations to Coach Richter on his first win as Hopewell head coach.
Next up for the Vikings is their home opener against Central Valley. The match will take place next Thursday (September 5th) at Tony Dorsett Stadium, starting at 7:30 PM.
